Your aquarium’s sump can be a source of noise. It could be too old, not installed correctly, or both. Either way, it’s making a lot of noise that’s not necessary. The sump of an aquarium consists of moving water, air, and solid objects, and all these elements can create a lot of noise.
Siphon drain

This type of drain works by sucking water into a U-tube and holding it in place. It usually holds when the return pump turns off and restarts when it is switched back on.
